Since 1996, MamaCare-Ghana Organization has worked to reduce maternal mortality rates and train Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and Community Health Nurses to administer safe prenatal, delivery and postnatal care and services in the Volta Region of Ghana. Examples of the organization’s comprehensive activities include:

- Undertaking community education on sexual and reproductive health.
- Facilitating training of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and Community Health Nurses with information for hospital referrals, family planning, enhanced medical techniques and health care kits as a strategy to reduce high-risk pregnancies and maternal and infant mortality.
- Advising pregnant women and mothers on infant health.
The organization has designated a holistic approach to promote HIV/AIDS preventive care and treatment, and reduce mother-to-child transmission as well as transmission from Nurses to mothers or mothers to Nurses due to unsafe practices or procedures. Through MamaCare-Ghana programs, over 200,000 people have become more knowledgeable on family planning, HIV/AIDS, and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
In 2018, till date, the organization has trained about 200 Community health nurses in basic midwifery practices and obstetric care, family planning education, and services delivery. MamaCare-Ghana has worked in the pockets of Volta Region, Greater Accra, Eastern Region, Northern Region, and currently Savannah Region located in the Northern Region of Ghana. MamaCare-Ghana works in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Services.

The nurses were provided with equipment for their work. This project aimed to reduce neonatal deaths in the communities.
