Our Volunteer Program

MamaCare-Ghana Organization accepts volunteers from all over the world. Volunteers can apply to MamaCare-Ghana in any of the programmes undertaken by the organization. Mainly, we accept volunteers in the following areas:

  • Health: Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, Students, Health Practitioners, and Specialists.
  • Community Development: Sustainable economic empowerment, skills development, and alternative livelihood enhancement.
  • Education: Teaching and coaching, developing early childhood activities, computer skills, role modeling, and sporting/games.
  • Environment: Mentoring community grassroots on climate change and its effects, sustainable agriculture practices, agroforestry, and tree planting.

We allow local and international volunteers to work with us in the following areas:

  • Health Care: Midwives, Nurses, Medical Doctors, Dentists, Physician Assistants, and Auxiliary Health Workers.
  • Education: Teachers, Early Childhood Instructors, Basic School Teachers, Junior High and School Teachers.
  • Organizational Development: Writing Funding Proposals, Capacity Building, Networking, and Online Connection to Other International Organizations.
  • Climate Change Adaptation: Professionals to teach climate change, genetic crops, climate-smart agriculture, and forestry restoration.
  • Vocational Skills Development: Alternative skills development, handy skills, job creation for youths, and equipment/materials support.

Generally, MamaCare-Ghana Organization will accept international volunteers in all areas of sustainable development. All volunteers will have access to tourist centers in Ghana and free accommodation.

What We Do

WHAT WE DO

Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights

  • Training of Practicing but Untrained Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs): MamaCare-Ghana has trained about 1,780 untrained TBAs in Volta Region, Northern Region, and Savannah Region, Ghana.

  • Training of Community Health Workers (CHWs): About 500 community health workers have been trained on pregnancy danger signs, early referral, HIV/AIDS prevention, malaria prevention, family planning, and school health education.

  • Training of Community Health Nurses in Emergency Delivery Practices: MamaCare-Ghana has trained about 700 community health nurses and enrolled nurses in emergency delivery practices, early signs of complicated pregnancy, and referral procedures. After training, they were awarded maternity toolboxes with basic midwifery equipment.

  • Training of Midwives in Long-Term Family Planning Methods.

  • Training of Community Volunteers in Peer Education on HIV/AIDS: Over 1,300 youths have been trained to educate peers and advocate for condom use.

  • Donation of Health Care Equipment: The organization donates medical equipment to hospitals, clinics, health facilities, and CHPS compounds to aid in effective care and service delivery.

  • Support in Construction of Maternity Homes and Refurbishment of Health Facilities: MamaCare-Ghana supports the building of maternity homes and refurbishes health infrastructure in underserved areas.

  • Cooperation with Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Services: Collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Services to improve healthcare delivery.


Climate Change Activities

  • Advocacy and Awareness:

    • Organizing workshops, seminars, and events to educate the public about climate change causes, impacts, and solutions.
    • Advocating for climate-friendly policies with governments, businesses, and communities.
  • Community-Based Initiatives:

    • Reforestation and afforestation efforts to restore forests and promote sustainable land practices.
    • Community-led climate resilience projects including flood protection, drought management, and climate-smart agriculture.
    • Promoting renewable energy sources like solar and hydro power in communities.
  • Education and Research:

    • Implementing climate change education programs for various audiences including children, youth, and professionals.
    • Conducting research and monitoring climate-related impacts and vulnerabilities.
  • Sustainable Livelihoods:

    • Promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices such as agroforestry and conservation agriculture.
    • Supporting communities with climate-resilient livelihood strategies, including eco-tourism and sustainable fishing.
  • Disaster Risk Reduction and Management:

    • Supporting communities in disaster risk reduction through early warning systems and emergency preparedness plans.
    • Helping communities develop and implement climate change adaptation plans.
  • Collaboration and Networking:

    • Collaborating with governments, businesses, and NGOs to leverage resources and expertise.
    • Networking and sharing best practices with other organizations and communities.

Reducing Poverty and Sustainable Livelihood Enhancement

  • Organizing Women Peasant Farmers into Self-Help Groups.
  • Skill Development in Sustainable Agriculture, Vegetable Farming, and Alternative Livelihoods.
